Heyy Guys!!!
So this is it, my last and the final post in which I'll be sharing with y'all my final 3D prototype of my project.

So after lots and lots of hit and trial method i finally managed to make the base of my model..
Well this is just the rough look, alot of work has to be done on it!!!!
As i had completely changed the look of the shoe house in my sketches i had to do the same in my 3D model!

So first i started of with making the 3D pillars from clay which were inspired by the shape of a mace followed by painting the walls of the shoe house according to the color story i had decided..
The window design as you know is inspired by the mountain Hanuman Ji carried for lord Rama. Therefore i made the window design separately because of its dimensions which were too big for the scale down model.

So now let me share with you guys MY FINAL 3D SCALED DOWN PROTOTYPE!

SO THIS WAS ALL GUYS!! Finally I'm done with my project and as well as this semester. I wouldn't have ever started a blog if it wasn't for a purpose but im sure i shared some of my ideas with you guys and i hope you guys liked it.
Also a special thanks to simi, my trainer, who taught me the importance of writing a blog and always supported me!
Hope to see you guys very soon with my new blog!

Just 2 more weeks left for this assignment to end which also means I'll be promoted to level 1 :D
I'm so excited thinking of how its gonna be.. but before that i have my final jury around the corner.. So.. back to workk!
In my last blog post I shared my design brief with y'all
Wait did i tell you my concept??
 oops!
So first of all have a look at my concept..

So, my main concern with the shoe house was that people were not utilising the space alotted to them and instead were sitting outside the mandir to collect shoes.. Which was leading to many problems such as-
1. People were paying them voluntarily.
2.There was no organised way of collecting shoes.
3.The people sitting outside were doing business in the name of seva.
AND SO ON..
Hence, i concluded that people visiting the temple were also ignorant about the fact that even though there is a shoe house provided to the people still they are sitting outside!
THEREFORE I THOUGHT OF RE-DESIGNING THE SHOE HOUSE AND MAKE PEOPLE AWARE OF IT'S PRESENCE.
In present, the overall look of the shoes house is not appealing to the the eyes.
So after a lot of research about re-designing i thought why not take inspiration from the hindu god Hanuman ji!
HAVE A LOOK!
We all know what a mace is (gada) in hindi. Well for those of you who do not know Mace is the main weapon on Hanuman Ji which he always used to carry on his shoulders. So, thats my first object which i made use to make the 3D walls of the shoe house.

These days everyone is jumping on the conservation movement, for a good reason. Therefore I decided to make my 3D wall design with "Bagasse" that are made from the fibrous remains of sugarcane

THAT'S BAGASSE ON YOUR LEFT!

THATS A 3D WALL ART DONE OUT OF BAGASSE MATERIAL!

So you guys obviously must have seen the famous image of
hanuman ji portrayed as splitting his chest to reveal the image of sita and rama. Well, thats my second inspiration to make the design of the window as you can see in my above sketch. I have further simplified the image to give it the shape of a window

Just another doodle from my logbook! In which im designing signage for the shoe house as well as trying to create design for my 3D walls!

Further i modified the window of the shoe house to create a 3D look!

These were all my ideas and sketches which helped me to      redesign my shoe house!
In my next blogpost ill be sharing with you guys the final look of the shoe house. So please don't forget to check my latest post which will be up very sooon!

Before telling y'all my design intervention let me share with you guys my design brief.. But wait do you guys know what design brief is?? Well if not let me tell you, its nothing huge just goes by its name design brief is a written document represting the need for design. Its focuses on the desired results..
I still have to write my concept which won't take tooo long.. So till then stay tuned! :D

Hey Guys! I've totally been lagging on my blog from the past couple of days... but that's all about to change. My project is finally coming to an end and I've been working on it like crazyyyy!!
So time to update you guys about my latest project work..:D
As you guys know that I've taken the shoe house as my micro area further i had to study the place and look for a design intervention. Soo here first have a look at my sketch
So thats a rough sketch of my micro area ( shoe house) if you want to see the real image just scroll down :)

I'm sure you guys are curious to know why have i taken this particular place as my micro study area.  So before moving on lemme just brief you a lil about it.

WHAT?

It is a shoe house outside the mandir where all the people before visiting the temple take their shoes off.

WHY?

It is a belief to remove shoes outside the mandir.
1.To keep the mandir neat and clean and obey the culture.
2. Shoes and chappals are made of leather which is made of animal skin. Thus it is said to remove shoes outside.

WHO?

There are people who sit outside the mandir just to collect shoes and they call themselves as sevak.

WHERE?

These people sit outside the mandir in an open area on mattresses.

WHEN?

From morning 7am till evening 7pm and sometimes till late night.

So after going and talking to few people, I went and talked to the man sitting outiside the mandir who collects shoes.
His name is soorat. He works as a sevak in the temple, lives in pahadganj and comes almost everyday along with his wife who also works in the temple. He sits outside the shoe house to collect shoes and as he's doing seva for the people he doesn't ask for money but people pay him voluntarily. Since childhood he's been doing this work and has a strong belief in Hanuman Ji.
Customers come within every 5-10mins and in an hour he earns a maximum of rs600-700. He told me that he has made tokens numbered from 1-50 so he gives one token to the customer and keeps the other with himself for his convience. On tuesdays and saturdays their is a lot of crowd and more people like him sit outside the mandir to collect shoes so he faces alot of competition.

But aren't you guys wondering that why do these people sit outside and not in the shoe house which is provided to them??

The reason why they don't sit inside the shoe house is because
they are doing business in the name of seva.
Also they fear competiton as many people like them are doing the same job.
People are ignorant                                about this and they are taking advantage of that!!

So I'm sure you guys got a little idea of where my project is heading too!!
In my next blogpost i'll be sharing with you the design intervention which i've thought of.. So stay tuned see you guys very sooon!! :D

                                                                                                                            Sketches made by me

Monday, 28 March 2016

Remember i told you guys in the beginning that eventually in the end this assignment will be done individually?
Y'all must be thinking whats up with this indivdual work im talking about.
So to keep you guys on track with me which is extremely important i'll just brief you about it a little.
After doing a good deal of research on our micro area which is Hanuman Mandir. We further have to choose a sub micro area. That means within Hanuman Mandir we have to select certain areas where we think there is an oppurtunity of design intervention. Yeah it sounds a bit scary but in reality it is a fun task. Yes, extremely challenging though! but we are incoporating our designer minds into something that is very useful for the society! So im actually looking forward to where im gonna stand in this project and also suggestion from you guys are alwayssss welcomeee! :D

Just a random sketch i made sitting in the metro while going to connaught place for my micro study research!!

When i reached Hanuman Mandir i realised that im coming to this place for the 5th time... some of the people there recognized me too! :P
After walking for hours and scrutinizing the shops there, i decided to choose the shoe house as my sub micro topic.
That's the shoe house i was talking about which i've taken as my sub micro topic..
Now further i have to study the place and come up with a design intervention for this place..
Till then stay tuned! see you guys very soon. :)
Hello folks! Im back with my new blog post.. Apologies for the delay in posting because i was a bit preoccupied with the holi celebrations:D
Btw, wishing y'all a very happy holi!

So coming back to work.. further in this assignment we are asked to map our micro area by making a 2D map following with a 3D model..

So all 5 of us went to Hanuman mandir once again for a site visit. I still remember it was so hot and we all were burning from inside but none of us gave up and we finished the measurements and calculated all the distances which were required for the 2D mapping and finally ended our day by treating ourselves with yummy burgers in mcDonalds :D
Thats our 3D model which is still in progress..After lots and lots of discussion, arguments and fights which you know are a part of group projects we finally decided to use thermocol, pop, Mdf board to make the base of the model keeping in mind that we have to give the essence and feel of that area.

Day 2 Early morning we visited the temple to capture the scenario!
We saw people sitting under the tree having hot tea and office people having breakfast from the famous kachaudiwalla.. some active some were in a rush cuz they were getting late!
The hawkers were engaged opening their shops, old ladies were buying flower from the florist, bhajan was playing in the Mandir all in all it was just soothing to sit there and watch everything happen..
That's a florist sitting in one corner of the mandir.

While exploring the mandir we came across many people. One such person amongst them was a shopowner of a puja shop.It was his father's shop and now he's the one who sits here and looks after it. He lives in Seemapuri and travels everyday from the bus. He had all the materials in his shop that are required by people for puja and decoration.. He told us that he gets all these materials from Sadarbaazar at a little cheaper price and sells them here with a good profit margin. Demand of his materials is more on tuedays and saturdays as there is too much crowd!
These are some of my doodles and sketches of the people outside the temple and their interviews..
Day 1 we visited the temple, observed the crowd and evironment of that area. We went inside the temple interacted to a couple of people and the pandits there. At first we had cold feet and we were so hesitant to talk to anyone there because it was altogether a new experience for us but eventually we started to gel in and later we realised that people there were so amiable and cooperative that it felt good and all our fear was vansihed..
yeahh thats me and my friend sitting! We got into the conversation so much that we sat there for like 45mins..
He told us alot about the temple how it established and also how the Mandir functions. He comes here everyday from morning 5am to evening 7pm, apart from that he also does havans and puja's in the Mandir.

After sitting there and talking to people all these questions poppled up in my head!!
As i was getting bored after sometime, i opened up my logbook and  started doodling..
These are some of my doodles which i made sitting there in the temple!
Something that i surveyed there was that earlier the temple was white in color but now they've changed its color to light pink. This is how the Mandir looks from outside..
sketches and doodle done by me.

Hii guys!!
Guess what? i've got a new assignment to work on:D
Which means.....THAT I'LL BE POSTING THE JOURNEY OF MY PROJECT HERE! WITH YOU ALL!!!
And like always i'm so eager to share my ideas with you guys and moreover can't wait to see your reaction to my new blog topic!!
So, the first step towards this project includes selecting an area of our own choice like CP,
 Haus khas, Dilli haat etc..
After selecting the area also called macro area we further study the socio culture envirorment of that place, ambience, materials and other things.

Oh! btw initially its a group project and by the end of the module it gets indivdiual. So our group has chosen CP(connaught place) as our macro research and within that we have chosen  HANUMAN MANDIR as our topic!
Before starting the project how about we chant a mantra?

Manojavam
Maarutatulyavegam
Jitendriyam Buddhimataam
Varistham,
Vaataatmajam
Vaanarayoothmukhyam
Sriramdootam Saranam
Prapadhye.

This mantra praises Hanuman as the messenger of the Lord Rama, who is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Hanuman can travel swiftly and is very intelligent. He is also described as the chief of the monkey army and the son of Vayu (Wind God).
Like before we have to maintain a logbook in which we describe our whole journey about our project. So this is the first page from my logbook in which i've shown a glance of my macro as well as micro area that is  connaught place and hanuman mandir.

let's get to know a little about this Mandir! What? where? when? why? and how did it establish..

HANUMAN MANDIRThis mandir is 500 years old, as the name itself says "pracheen".It was built originally by Maharaja Man Singh and was said to be reconstructed by Maharaja Jai Singh.
This mandir is very famous for its one eyed Hanuman murti which is 2000 years old and is said to have been found on the grounds of the temple.

Thats the fanous one eyed murti of Hanuman ji on your right!
During this time Hanuman ji was facing towards south while going to Lanka thats the reason why it is called as the one eyed murti.
Also one interesting fact about this murti is that it is coated with silver!

That's my color board. I've used photoshop to make color palette. The color palette comprises of all the possible colors in the painting and also I've used the similar colors to make my swatches that comes in the next phase!

One more color board.

Thats my material board..
It comprises of all the materials which ill be going to use in my swatches!

So this one's inspired by the costume of kathak dance basically the upper part known as angarkha. When the dancer takes a turn(chakkar) their costume follows the movement and flairs up giving a beautiful look!
Thats not my final swatch just some exploration of the costume with magazine cutouts!
Have you guys seen the side part of a tabla? it has strings attached to it. The design made out of it is a elongated diamond shape, well i changed it a bit and made a simple pattern out of it using matchsticks and tissue paper!

Heyy guys! Finally i'm back with the last phase of my project..

As i told you guys that the last part of the project would be interesting, well its time for me to tell you guys what it is!!

Have you guys heard of swatches? Im sure y'all must have but those who haven't, chill! its nothing big. Swatches are basically a small sample of fabric or any material which is used to show the look of a larger piece.

So, we were supposed to make swatches related to our concept and the essence which we took out of it. My concept was kathak and the essence i took out of it was "unity and togetherness". Please refer to my earlier blogs if you wanna know how i came up with that essence. :)

I'm kinda excited to share my work with you guys. Hope you like it!! :D

So this is my first swatch, my inspiration was tabla (the upper part of tabla). I used plastic wire to make it and some fancy glitter and paints to decorate the inner part!!

Have you guys seen a closeup of ghungroo??
IF NOT!
Have a look at my swatch on your left. The design is inspired by the shape of a ghungroo.

This one's my favourite.
IT ACTUALLY TOOK ME 3-4 hrs TO COMPLETE IT! The design is inspired by the essence and i've used different colored straws to make it.

CLOSE UP OF THE                                                                      DESIGN:)

EXPLORING THE DESIGN FOR MY NEXT SWATCH..

GUYSS! Finally the last phase of my project is here which is the moosssst interesting and time consuming as well where I've made 3D patterns, textures also called swatches after taking out the essence from my concept. Please please have a loooook :)

Saturday, 13 February 2016

Hi Guys!  Sorry for the delay in posting the new blog..I promise to make it upto you!:)

SO, HAVE YOU GUYS HEARD OF PHOTOSHOP??
I'm sure you all have if not then let me tell you that its  an extremely amazing software to edit photos and make beautiful collages and trust me its really not difficult, so if you guys have any upcoming project to do which includes editing USE PHOTOSHOP! take my word you guys will rock!
ANYHOWW coming back to my project.. Ive used a bit of my CAD skills to make some visual boards for my teachers and you ofcourse. ;)
This is my concept board..
So when i was doing my research and mind mapping, i gathered pictures from the internet and books which were related to my topic that is kathak. Well this is not the final board some changes are still needed in this which i will make very soon after consulting my teacher.

This is my inspiration board.
While doing my research i read about many things that were related to kathak. But apart from that i wanted to get into the history and details of the costumes that were worn in that period, instruments used and hand gestures, Hence i took inspiration from these things to make my board and more interesting things which you guys will eventually get to know!
This is my mood board..
Wait wait wait do you know whats a mood board? Okay if you dont lemme just brief you guys a bit. A mood board is something which gives you the feel and essence of the concept that you're working on. We put together images and words that best convey the essence of the concept.
My inspiration from the concept(kathak) was the design of the costume and instruments etc. Hence combining evertything i derived my mood board.

I was scribbling something i thought how about i share it with y'all. This will actually help you understand why i've used some of my pictures in the mood board.
 Please have a loook!!:)
